1934 - Born in Namhae, South Gyeongsang Province, Republic of Korea
1953 - Enters Haein Monastery, receives novice ordination from Seon Master Seoku
1957 - Receives full Bhikksu ordination in Tongdo Monastery
1959 - Begins practice under guidance of Seon Master Hyanggok
1967 - Receives Dharma transmission from Master Hyanggok, continuing the lineage of the masters Gyeongheo, Hyewol, Unbong, and Hyanggok. Recognized in Korea as the 79th Patriarch in the dharma lineage deriving from Shakyamuni Buddha.
1971 - Founded the monastery of Haeun Jeongsa
1979 - Josil (Guiding Seon Master) of Geummo Seon Hall at Haeun Jeongsa
1991 - Chairman of the Board, Institute of Seon Studies. Appointed Guiding Master of Central Seon Center
1994 - Josil (Guiding Seon Master) of Donghwa Monastery
1996 - Appointed Josil (Guiding Seon) Master of the "Fundamental Seon Practice," responsible for overseeing the Seon training of meditation monks in the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
1998 - Invited to be a presiding Seon Master for the First Open Seon Conference, held at Baekyang Monastery
2000 - Invited to be a presiding Seon Master for the Second Open Seon Conference, held at Baekyang Monastery
2000 - Invited to be Josil (Guiding Seon Master) of Taego Seon Hall at Bongam Monastery
2002 - Presiding Seon Master of the International Open Seon Conference, held at Haeunjeongsa
2003 - Becomes a member of the Council of Elders, Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
2004 - Awarded the title of Daejongsa, "most eminent monk," by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism
2009 - Presiding Seon Master of the "Hundred-Seat Dharma Assembly" held in the BEXCO center, Busan, South Korea
2011 - Dharma Talk at New York Riverside Church on "Ganhwa Seon and World Peace"
2012. 2 - Attended the 60th National Prayer Breakfast in the US.
